Funding Guidelines
The Hunter Foundation proactively sources programmes for investment, or works with partners to develop new programmes where a gap or clear need is identified. As such it is very rare indeed for THF to fund unsolicited bids, however if you wish to apply please complete a maximum two page summary outlining how your project fits with our aims and objectives and email it to info@thehunterfoundation.co.uk. This summary should include:
- Summary of project:
- Impact of project:
- Any independent evaluation undertaken of your project/programme:
- If this is a local programme how it could be scaled to become a national programme:
- Current sources of funding: and
- Funding sought from The Hunter Foundation:
Please note we do not have a large staff and thus we will not consider meetings in advance of this information being provided. If your project appears to be of initial interest, we will then contact you to discuss this further.
By way of guidance to applicants some basic facts about our investments are as follows:
UK & Ireland
THF invests in programmes that embed a ‘can do’ spirit in children and that tackle the root causes of the problems that see children consigned to the ‘Not in Education, Employment or Training’ group (NEET Group).
We do not fund capital projects nor individual causes and we always look towards investing in programmes that are nationally scalable and capable of being embedded for systemic change.
Developing World
In the developing world we look towards investing in holistic programmes of intervention that support self-sustainable communities thriving. Often these combine health, education, agriculture and business creation and development interventions.
We are currently working with the Clinton Foundation on the Clinton-Hunter Development Initiative. This initiative is concentrating in Malawi & Rwanda on pilot projects that could be replicated throughout different countries. Until we have completed these pilot programmes we will are unlikely to be in a position to consider new project funding as we fundamentally believe in taking a very strategic investment approach and this will only come from testing out models of intervention.
Unlike the UK and Ireland we do consider capital projects and often fund, for example, schools development.
On occasion we also fund humanitarian causes as we have done in both Northern Uganda and the Niger, albeit we always aim to integrate our approach and build in as much sustainability as is possible under the circumstances.
